Why You Feel Like Something Is Wrong With You (And How It Is Draining Your Income)
Do you ever feel like something is fundamentally wrong with you?
Not a hard day. Not one mistake you can point to. A deeper, quieter sense that you are flawed in a way other people are not. Like everyone else got a manual for being a person and you missed the day it was handed out.
Most high achieving women I work with feel some version of this. Very few say it out loud. And almost none of them realize it is the quiet engine underneath their overworking.
Here is how it usually shows up. You do more than your share. You overdeliver at your own expense, adding extra so no one could ever be disappointed. You stay available at all hours. You say yes when your whole body means no. You price your work below what it is worth, because charging the full amount feels like too much to ask from someone like you.
From the outside, this looks like drive. People admire it.
From the inside, it is something else. It is proving.
Where the belief comes from
You were not born believing something was wrong with you. No baby thinks that.
It usually starts in an old moment. A time you were criticized, corrected, or turned away, and it landed hard. You were young, and young children cannot think, that adult is just having a bad day, or that rule was unfair. A small part of you reached for the only explanation a child can reach for. The problem must be me.
That decision made sense then. It helped you make sense of a confusing moment. But you have been carrying it ever since, into every room you walk into, long after it stopped being true.
Why it does not stay in one place
How you do one thing is how you do everything.
The same belief that has you overexplaining yourself in your relationships has you overworking in your business. The same part of you that apologizes for taking up space at home is the part that undercharges at work. It is not two separate problems. It is one root showing up in two rooms.
This is why fixing one area never seems to fix the tired. You set a boundary in one place and the pattern moves to another. Because the boundary was never the real issue. The belief underneath it was.
The cost nobody adds up
Here is the part that matters for your business.
When you secretly believe you are flawed, you do not build from worth. You build from proving. And proving is the most expensive way to work there is.
It costs you in your body first. The exhaustion that no amount of rest seems to touch, because you are not just tired from the work. You are tired from carrying the belief while you do the work.
Then it costs you in your income. You overdeliver at your own expense, so your effort keeps climbing while your prices stay low. You give away extra time, extra sessions, extra care, all to feel worthy of what you charge. The result is a number that never matches the effort. More going out. Less coming in. Not because your work lacks value, but because you are quietly paying a tax on a flaw that was never real.
This is why more strategy has not fixed it. You can buy every course, hire every consultant, tighten every funnel, and still hit the same ceiling. Because the ceiling is not in your business. It is in one belief you have never stopped to question.
The turn
Here is the truth I want to leave you with. You cannot fix a flaw that was never there. You can only see that it was never there.
That is the whole shift. Not becoming someone new. Not adding one more improvement to the pile. Just finally seeing that the thing you have been working so hard to cover does not exist and never did.
When one woman I worked with saw this, she stopped adding more to prove herself. For the first time in two years, she raised her price. Nothing about her actual work changed. What changed was what she believed she was allowed to charge for it. Her income moved because her belief moved.
That is what becomes possible on the other side of this. Work that is no longer a place you prove you are enough, but a place you are simply paid your worth. Rest you do not have to earn first. Support you can receive without turning it into a debt. A life and an income you build while you are living, not after you finally fix yourself.
You are not broken. You never were. You have just been working harder than anyone should have to, trying to fix something that did not need fixing.
Your next step
If you feel like something is wrong with you and you cannot stop overworking to cover it, that feeling is worth understanding, not obeying.
My free quiz, What's Really Driving Your Overworking, walks you to the belief underneath your overworking in about three minutes. It is the first step to building from worth instead of proving. Take the quiz. The link is right here.
